2010 Projects
Annual Plant Exchange
Organized by Sandy Cooper, Tammy McClimans, and NgocDzung Smith, our First Annual Plant Exchange was held on April 12, 2008. It was a great way to trade extra plants from your garden for new plants! This event gave neighbors an opportunity to meet and share extra plants and bulbs in exchange for new ones for both the novice and experienced gardener!
Annual Yard Sale
Our yard sale was a swimming success this year. Our neighborhood along with the Kent Historical Museum and Stafford Suites all participated in a community garage sale on June 12, 2010.
Annual National Night Out
Our annual National Night Out event is organized by the Neighborhood Blockwatch which is currently co-captained by Sharon Bersaas and NgocDzung Smith. This unique event allows our neighbors to meet and get to know one another while fostering a sense of community and highlighting our safety efforts and concerns. City of Kent officials and public safety representatives visit to answer questions. This event is held at the Kent Historical Museum. Each year, raffle items were donated by several local businesses. Thank you to the generosity of these local businesses.
Historic House Book Completed – A Community of Unique & Historic Homes
Our first grant project has been completed. As part of the project we compiled the research and photos of homes of the grant participants in to a book. Published in September 2010. The historic homes featured in this book were voluntary paricipants of a plaque r funded in part by the Cit of Kent Neighborhood Grant Program. Many of the homes in our neighborhood maintain many of their original features. Many of our homes are still owned and occupied by second, third, and fourth generations of the original builders. Archived images from the US Censusu from the 1930s and 1950s have been included in the book so that you can see how some homes have changed and some have remained the same. Books are available at the Kent Historical Museum Starting January 1, 2011.
